a desire to receive
When was the last time you received something in the mail?

When was the last time you received something in the mail?

I’m not talking about a next-day Amazon package or your latest SSENSE order. I mean something personal. Something physical. Something specifically for you.

We have a desire to collect—but we also have a desire to receive.

Do you ever watch an influencer unbox a PR package and feel a bit jealous?

I wish I had something to open too.

Or think about the feeling when your boss hands you a birthday gift and you’re like, another candle…

Getting something random isn't the same as getting something you want to keep. Something for the shoebox under your bed, added to your fridge, or taped on your bedroom wall.

River Print is a physical extension of River - in exchange for participation, you receive something tangible in the mail.

The first version of River Print was simple.

We picked a week, looked at who had been active, and asked for their mailing addresses. I picked one post per user, printed it at 2.75 x 3.5", glued it onto a postcard, hand wrote their address, and signed it off with the name of the channel the image came from.

Each one was stamped and mailed to people across Brazil, the Netherlands, Sweden, Colombia, Spain, Germany, Thailand, Denmark, Canada, and the US. A few weeks later, postcards started showing up on Instagram stories, in River channels, and sent to our messages.

What does Ritual mean to you?

The second version was based on a question.

We posted it on Instagram and invited people to comment their thoughts. I wrote a letter with my own answer, picked two River images, and mailed them together in an envelope to everyone who shared a comment. A few people wrote back with their own letters. Those became part of the growing River Print collection too.

Submit a photo to the river print channel and send us your address.

If you did, you’ll be receiving something soon.

River Print is an ongoing experiment in participation, attention and connection.

you participate = you receive

It’s not about the object itself. It’s about the gesture. Maybe it ends up meaning something to you. Or maybe it just breaks up your week in a good way.

Either way, it’s a reminder that it’s nice to feel a little closer - a little more connected.
