Hey. Getting used to this new format. Really appreciating the space to spread out and share a bit more. I have a lot to say – or at least a lot im figuring out how to say – so for now I figured I'd start by sharing a bit about things I find interesting "these days." Stumbling upon new + genuinely inspiring stuff has felt increasingly rare to me, so taking the time to archive whats stood out feels important. Without further ado...
soma fm
Lets avoid any music discourse for now please. What's important is that I am listening to great music all day long, ideally fitted to whatever activity or mood I find myself in. Soma is an internet radio station based in SF that has a crazy deep selection of 24/7 radio stations each catered to a different vibe. I mainly listen to Synphaera, Drone Zone, Deep Space One, and n5MD – all different takes on drony, whispery, electronic trance that helps me stay locked in.
antikythera
I'm not rlly too sure how to describe what Antikythera is, but for me their importance comes from the fact they are the only group/company/entity/collective/thing that has presented any type of "from the ground up" analysis of the current world order in a way that makes any sense to me. In a talk by the founder Benjamin Bratton – he described how at certain points in human history, philosophy is far ahead of technology and the most important work to be done is to take our new powerful mental models and build the world. In other moments, like today, technology gets so far ahead that we lack the words and frameworks to understand what it really means. Antikythera is a group trying to figure out what today means, and has a deep archive of reading + video that you can get lost in. A few of my favorite links to get started on are this one, this one, and this one.
finding balance
I swear im not tryna be annoying with this one lol. But the pursuit of balance in my life is something I've become more aware of over the past 2 years (funnily enough, the same time period I've been working on River), and appears to be something that you can get better at if you work on it.
Go outside, go inside.
Walk in the woods, dive deep on youtube.
Ambient music, hardcore throwbacks.
Work out everyday, spend a few weeks chilling.
Spend time with friends, spend time alone.
Buy cool things, practice minimalism.
Dont try too hard, stay up 24/7 on your pursuits.
Whatever it is, there's always another side to it. Although everyone is trying to tell you the opposite, life is long, and you have time to experience everything you want. Live like a monk, live like a rockstar, live every life you want to live. It's all possible (with a little self-belief + luck) and the pressure you relieve yourself of "doing the right thing" is probably just what you need to start manifesting what it is you really want to do.
It was fun writing this, more to come. Thanks for being here <3
