Bookbinding Assignment 1: Casbound Pamphlet Sample
I started by tearing my paper and cutting my bookcloth and bookboard to size. This took the longest, but I'm happy I chose to tear the paper instead of cutting it with a blade. It left me with a really nice soft and natural edge.
After making sure all of my paper was the right size, I bound the paper together with a basic three-hole pamphlet stitch. I also bound a small piece of gray bookcloth on the outside of the pamphlet so I could attach it to the cover seamlessly. I used white waxed linen thread.
To make the casebound cover, I used PVA glue to attach kozo paper and bookcloth to my bookboard. I also trimmed the edges and folded them in on the cover (not pictured).
I attached the pamphlet to the cover with PVA glue via the bookcloth I attached to the pamphlet before. (peep my dirty glue brush...i washed it i promise).
To finish the book, I glued in endpages that I had made a few weeks ago by painting ink onto parchment paper and pressing thin paper onto the ink. I'm pretty happy with my final product! This is just a sample, so I will be making a version of a pamphlet with printed content next week :)
