Elizabeth Glaessner at PPOW, NYC These paintings feel at first like half-remembered nightmares—then like bodies holding the evidence. Glaessner works the canvas to the point of obsession: some areas swell with paint like green gangrenous wounds, others are scraped raw, revealing the tender red beneath. The surfaces grow scar tissue. Ghostly figures linger in familiar yet alien scenes, caught in postures so bluntly human—desperation, boredom, yearning—that they start to feel almost inhuman.
