searching for you in the mist
drifting
through grass fields in my memory
unwinding
a long kite string to look for you from above
to find you, who once flew through brittle grass fields
crushing stalks and faint little breaths
mom’s laughter at your untethered joy
remarking at how high you flew
i can barely remember
yet here you are
the kite flier, the kite
bring me back down, let me descend
i’m taking my first steps again
