today, I’m brought to tears by an elm tree by dragonflies bouncing atop a still lake the duck that plays alone, over and under water bell birds singing in the quiet places I feel my heart beat stutter far away from the low slow grumble I feel my heart beat slow

today the grass is long the air is still balmy, even as the sun sets I watch it fall behind a glowing pink cloud I step around a pothole on the sidewalk my wrist aches from the weight of it the smell of Thai takeout all the way home

today everything is beautiful and I am lucky but it is beyond luck to see the world this way: make the soft choice in the morning make the loud choice the small choice make any choice make it grateful make it again before you go to bed
