Stardate 3 am – Alameda quadrant. REM sleep jolted by cats jumping on the bed. Except there are no cats in the house. How can this be? Fog lifted, even in utter darkness, to reveal what you see above. A notable seismic event. Not the great SF quake of 1906. Nor was it 1994 in Northridge. Or Kobe the following year. Lastly, it was nothing at all lke 2011's Tōhoku event, the trigger for the tsunami that was the primary cause of the Fukushima meltdown. But it was kin to all those in the past, and surely, there are more to come.
